Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR) Outreach & Education Programs MDCR provides Outreach and Education activities in collaboration with governmental units, community-based organizations, law enforcement, advocacy groups, educational institutions, and the private sector. These activities include networking, partnership, presentations, crisis intervention, training, and technical assistance.
Outreach Component Outreach by department colleagues may generate work that evolves into an educational presentation or a partnership between the department and another group, or working relationships that promote MDCR in the community. Outreach includes networking at dinners and community events, keeping abreast of current issues, and sharing information for future interventions.
Education Component Education by department colleagues provides customers with information about civil rights laws and enhances awareness of civil rights issues. It also provides a resource for the proactive prevention of discrimination within a community. Education includes the following routine presentations: Disability, Diversity (Employment or for Schools), Sexual Harassment (Employees or Managers), Housing and General Civil Rights Law. Requests for routine presentations will be forwarded to your local MDCR Office.
Requests for non-routine or customized presentations (Building Cultural Competence, Hate Crime 101, Police Community Relations, Crime Victim Compensation trainings) will be forwarded to MDCR’s Community Relations Division. To inquire about training possibilities for your organization or community group, please complete the form below. An MDCR member will contact you shortly. For information on our statewide Building Cultural Competence and Hate Crime 101 trainings under the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant, please see the Training Calendar. |
